Curious is anyone has applied to out of district school for their child on Long Island, particularly North Shore? What's the experience like and what was the outcome? Have to guess the top ranking schools probably don't have spots available for out of district students. Any exceptions? Thank you.
In New York, a school district would have to allow students to "tuition in" in order for this to be possible. My understanding is that most suburban school districts don't allow it. It is not really a matter of spots available. It's instead a policy choice made by the school board.

Correct!
The amount of the "tuition" would be whatever residents of the particular school district pay as part of their RE taxes (often as much as 2/3 of total RE taxes).
sorry to gang in ... I am sending my daughter to syosset district school and I am in syosset (baylis elem), can I apply to another elementary in syosset? (village? or south grove?) eventhough it's not in my boundary map?

Also, you would have to provide your own transportation to get to the out of district school, if I’m not mistaken and if you are even able to do it.
