Of course not. Affordable housing is certainly a problem on Long Island, especially as it relates to twenty and thirty somethings. However, nothing is better than the head in sand mentality of pretending it doesn't exist or the alternative of basement apartments. FWIW, I'm not arguing that this proposal is perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but it is good to see the issue actually being discussed instead of ignored entirely.
The government can do all sorts of nonsense when it's inspired to do so. Look up the history of the Federal government's battle with Westchester County under Obama, where they sued and threatened to withhold funding under the auspices of the woke nonsense concept called "disparate impact". IE, if an area is disproportionately white, even if you can't find any discriminatory intent, there must still discrimination based on the numbers alone. A similar tactic was tried against Garden City, however the powers that be stepped in before the new housing development could be built and a government building was erected instead.
It was far worse in Westchester. Single family homes on nice tree-lined houses were sold to nebulous LLCs which were really front companies for developers allowed to bypass zoning and building codes by government edict. All of a sudden there's an apartment building on your block, regardless of the impact on the neighbors or the local utilities. Operation Screw YT was only shut down in 2017 after Trump came into office.

Liberal dems have neither forgiven or forgotten Rob Astorino. That's one reason why the guy can't get good political traction since. His chances for GOP nomination in last year's governor race were doomed as well.
If a republican wins WH in 2024 he should appoint Mr. Astorino head of local HUD office; that should cause a few heads to explode.
You guys realize there’s a lot of young white people in their 20s and 30s who can’t afford to live here either right? I think you need to be making like $200k just to afford a starter home on LI these days.

no one doubt its expensive, but we dont want the surburbs to look like Queens. There's a reason we are out here in Suffolk.

“Starter homes” are really a thing of the past. Especially on LI. Honestly the key to affording a house here for younger people these days is most often marriage. If both have a decent income you can swing it. Being single it’s much more difficult.
Most.of the new apartment complexes being built are touted as being luxury yet they get tax abatements which is wrong. Build with cheaper appliances in a more cost effective manner to lower the cost in order to get a tax break
But people want all the bells and whistles despite not being able to afford them. Champagne taste on beer budgets.
