Husband and I made offer on home in Syosset about 0.7 of a mile from the Syosset train station. Instead of driving and parking at the station (we only have 1 car at the moment) are there any local shuttles, or car pools anyone could refer me to? The house is on Dorothy Street in North Syosset.

Thanks

You must be talking about Dorothy DRIVE, because Dorothy STREET is closer to 3 miles away.

Anyway, I don't believe there is a shuttle service. For carpooling, you might want to place flyers inside and outside the ticket booth about car pooling, as well as in your new neighborhood (not in the mailboxes though!). You might find a future neighbor who commutes, although the difficulty in accomplishing this sometimes lies in coordinating both rides, to and from NYC. In nice weather, you could potentially walk home...

Nowadays a lot of people like to cut down on gasoline consumption, so you might get several responses - what do you think?

It sounds a little lame, but I have been riding a bike to the Hicksville station ever since parking became a real problem. It's good exercise and faster than walking (even faster than driving and parking really far).
