Hey guys, i have a question about last year's hurricane irene which i cant find an answer for anywhere,

i want to know if North Woodmere/Hewlett area was flooded when hurricane Irene hit Long island last year, can someone who lives in the area or close to the area let me know please.

Iv seen these horrific videos in the news last year of the houses flooded and what not which scares me, im planing to buy a house in north woodmere so thats why i ask.

Don't let it deter you though- hurricanes like that do not happen too often here.

Yeah I can't remember the last stork like that. Peninsula Blvd was under a foot of water.. Was fun driving in it though

Every how long does a storm like that happen in north woodmere?

Before Irene in 2011 the last hurricane to really impact Long Island was Gloria in 1985 .... before I was even born.

The few hurricanes that even make it this far north are almost always downgraded to tropical storms. Tropical storms are pretty common but usually don't amount to much more than localized flooding (not as bad as with Irene) and downed trees and power lines.

Maybe like once every 40 years or something. The water is too cold to really allow storms to pick up speed.

I don't know why you're worried. I've been here 30 years and I haven't blown or washed away yet.
