I am from Long Island and much of my family is still there. For Christmas this year, I'd like to buy them gift certificates to smaller, local businesses in Suffolk County to try to support them through this pandemic. (Say, Smithtown through Riverhead.)
I haven't lived there for 25 yrs so I no longer have an idea of what small businesses are out there. I'd be looking for outdoorsy, camping, boating, natural living, art supplies, and/or hippie type stuff. No salons, hair, makeup, nails, jewelry, massages, or anything like that. For men, women, and/or children and families.
If you have any ideas for small local businesses in the Smithtown through Riverhead area, I'd love to hear them. Thank you!
These guys are out in yaphank. I ordered some stuff when they were donating skincare products to healthcare workers. They also have periodic sales where they discount the skincare products 50 percent. Otherwise, it's rather pricey and they don't have sales that often. They sell other things too besides products made from lanolin.
Definitely hippie oriented.

You could also get a gift certificate for one of the places that rent kayaks or canoes. Some have guided excursions.
My fear is that these places will go out of business and the gift card will be useless. Finding that even with the chain restaurants. I am just giving Visa gift cards.
