Also from NYC (Queens). We have spent the last two summers visiting L.A. for the express purpose of avoiding NYC summers.
To put it simply, it worked!

The humidity is MUCH less than NYC and the highest temperature we found in the Hollywood/West Hollywood area was about 82 degrees.
At the shore (Manhattan Beach) it dropped as low as 67 during the day.
We attended concerts at the Greek Theater in Griffith Park at night and needed light jackets. Never felt any stickiness or humidity except for about an hour in the morning in Manhattan Beach until the marine layer starts to burn off. Even then, nothing like back east.

Did not get to Encino but did visit Malibu and Santa Barbara and found pretty much the same.

Basically, to a New Yorker it's absolutely beautiful in L.A. during the summer.

And on that side of the hill the humidity is even less than the WeHo side.

This sounds like my kinda Summer weather. I can't stand the East Coast hot and humid spells when there isn't even a breeze. Ugh!

Perfect. Now I need to save up and buy a place in LA. Orig from NYC and living in N. NV and I miss living in a big city, But I dislike the weather on the East Coast. When I lived in NYC I use to go to Europe in the summer to avoid the hummm-idity.

Thank you all for your responses

Last two summers were unseasonably cooler than avg. typically, summers are hot and dry. Along the coast, daytime temp around mid 70s to low 80s. Weho and surrounding areas mid 80s to low 90s. Encino, the valleys, upper 80s to 90s. Sometimes over 100s. Temp drops considerably at night. Hope this helps.

Sometimes it can get humid when the seasonal "monsoon" moisture drifts over from Arizona or if the remnants of a tropical storm come this way, but this typically only lasts a few days. Again, it's nothing at all like what you experience in New York!

We do get three weeks near Labor Day that temps may exceed 100. Not so bad the last 6 years. 2005 was a hot year.

August is generally the only month with significant humidity, but it's nothing like humidity you see on the east coast.
