We are contemplating a holiday rental for 5 nights on Hollywood Boulevard near Graumans Chinese Theatre.....Is this a good idea??

YES.

It is going to be noisy, but it is a very touristy area so you don't have to worry about safety, lots of police patrolling the area. There is a fairly large transient/homeless/runaway population around there so if that bothers you then it might be a problem... but I have never seen anyone have an issue and they are for the most part pretty respectful of others.

I live a few blocks down and have been here over a year, never once have I or my wife feared for our safety.

That spot is one of the more convenient and centrally located areas in the city - access to the subway, rapid buses, not a far drive to the major sites in LA.
