UCLA International Student needs space for a few days while house hunting (apartment)

Hi
I am incoming international graduate student at UCLA. I plan to move to LA around mid-April. My classes start on May 15. I need to know about an affordable place where I can stay till I find a suitable apartment/shared rental around UCLA and sign a lease. I think it might take a few days to do so after I land at LAX. I'm having a look at UCLA community housing website, craigslist and Zuma housing. I'm looking for an affordable place where my luggage(mostly books) will be safe while I go house hunting. I'll be mostly looking at areas around UCLA. Please suggest a place that wont cost me lot of money (preferably less than 40$ per night) for a short stay.

That does not exist. Even the ghetto notels cost more than that a night. And those are not safe.

You'll need to up your budget to at least $60-65 per night. Will you have access to a car?

There's a cheap motel right by UCLA but it's more like $70-80 a night.

You need to have a place secured before moving there. Everyone else does.

For international students and students on the budget, there is the UCLA Co-Opportunity which has very cheap rent but in return you are required to do chores

There is a hostel a few miles away. There is one in santa monica near 3rd street or 2nd somewhere. Check out hostelworld. com or hostels.com for the place.

Ha ha ha. I called it co-opportunity. stupid me. CoOperative is right. Still, that's where internationals and budget folks live. You can be super close to campus, have meals and friends and only pay like $600 a month (expect to have roommate(s), of course)
