There is a startling new sight at the subway station at Hollywood and Vine these days, set amid the handsome trappings of vintage film projectors and movie paraphernalia: five subway turnstiles.

I can't believe the honor system hasn't worked. Humans are hard-wired to be so doggone honest.

I always thought they must have some other way of counting it besides paid entries. Would be funny to discover Los Angeles has a higher rail ridership than it thought it did.

Perfect example of how the city messes up and loses revenue .. I'm sure we got ripped off on the turnstiles too.

Also when are we going to collect the millions owed to us from the parking lot taxes

Audit: Los Angeles officials don't know how many parking lots are in the city (updated) | The Latest | 89.3 KPCC

Is it stupidity or corruption ??

The turnstiles are being locked probably as a preparation for a distance-based fare structure, which will make sense once the various upcoming lines are operational in a few years. Locking now will help riders get used to TAPing.

Metro Rail's current system isn't a honor system because deputies do check tickets... so it is in some way enforced.

One of the people in the article mentioned he just rips up tickets and that they aren't enforced

If this is true what's the point of even having officers give tickets

Does anybody know if this is true. Are citations not really enforced?

I don't see how locking the turnstiles will change anything. People can still hop over the bar or easily walk through the access gate for disabled people.

Does locking the turnstiles just mean that the Sheriffs won't be riding the trains anymore checking people's tickets?

I think that he's full of it. Unless he routinely gives a fake name, which he may considering that he just confessed to a national newspaper.

The weakness of the system is people not having ID and then giving a fake name and address. They have to take you on your word.

Remember the recent traffic light camera system in Los Angeles? They didn't enforce those tickets. So how likely is it that they will enforce these?
