Wow what a view (': I wasn't born yet but for the people who watched the rise of DTLA in their lifes, must be an experience.

That smog was pretty gnarly.

That's about how I remember it when I moved to L. A. (September 1976). Look how small the skyline was! That first year, I lived in Palms and took the freeway bus (604) to Venice & Grand, and then transferred to the 9 to get to USC. Nowadays, I could just take the 33 bus on Venice for a short distance and transfer to the Expo (rail) Line to get to campus. Oh well, was 40 years ahead of my time

That is simply amazing! I have NEVER seen the freeway moving so freely during daylight hours ever!

And I've been here since 1987.

Yeah, it was. I was born in a L.A. foothill suburb in 1951 and have live my whole life in SoCal. The place sure has grown. The smog was the worst. Didn't really started getting cleaned up until 1975, when lead in gasoline was outlawed and catalytic converters were mandated. Took a few years to get cleaned up, (the retirement of older automobiles). Today, the smog is nothing as I remember in my youth.

when I moved to LA in 1976 I could park on the street in Santa Monica on Ocean and take the "lawyers' bus" downtown, be at work in 20 minutes.
