In fact there is a website called "Brits in LA", there might be some links or suggestions, or maybe even someone who would be willing to rent rooms.

Just an idea.
This sounds like a very good option. Biochemistry is a brutally difficult subject. And to do a program at UCLA, an elite public university in the hyper-competitive environment of elite graduate students makes it even harder. A form of cultural/country support could help.

Thank you so much for your input everyone! It's great to hear some suggestions from people that actually live in LA and know the local housing market. Some truly great ideas and information such as the UCHA Co-op - Student housing near UCLA

My daughter is actually working on an organic farm in France now but she'll be back in time for her graduation this coming Thursday. She's a vegan and also practices yoga--she was the president of the yoga club at her university for a year. Are there any legitimate and useful "social websites" other than FB that could help her meet, or share housing with like-minded students near UCLA? The university hasn't been very helpful with her housing enquiries. She'd prefer to live on campus but apparently they don't have this option for grad students. They just keep sending her the same "automated" email about their off campus housing affiliates which are all very expensive and no-one from UCLA has answered any of her questions about housing options.

To sum up, she's managed to talk to a few students about some housing options in the Westwood area but prices there tend to be about $800 for a shared bedroom in an apartment that houses 5-6 students! Is that normal for Westwood or anywhere close to UCLA? She'll initially be staying in Venice in August, so hopefully she can look around a bit before choosing a place for the upcoming year. She's a bit worried about searching so late for the upcoming semester--is it much more difficult to find a place close to UCLA after the semester begins or is it all the same?

Thanks again for any ideas and suggestions!
