Happy Indigenous People Day

Anybody going to the big celebration at USC today ?

Mitch O'Farrell former cruise ship dancer turned city councilman is a tribe member , is he in the same tribe as Elizabeth Warren ?

--

The council voted in August to make the switch and celebrate the second Monday in October as Indigenous Peoples Day, but it has until 2019 to officially create the new holiday while it drafts and approves a new ordinance.

O’Farrell, who is wasting no time celebrating the move, will be recognizing the City Council’s vote with students at the Los Feliz Charter School for the Arts and at an event at USC’s Fowler Museum.

The event in Los Feliz is not open to the public. The event at USC is open to the public and scheduled to begin at 5 p.m where O’Farrell plans to present official certificates of appreciation to members of the L.A. City- County Native American Commission.

O’Farrell, who is a member of the Wyandotte Native American Tribe, led the drive on the City Council to replace Columbus Day and successfully argued that the explorer’s connection to brutality and slavery makes him unworthy of celebration.

Why do you ask, when your quote/linked article states his tribal affiliation? You wouldn't want people to think you're trolling, would you?

Why are LA schools open today? The bus and passenger loading lanes are taking up valuable parking space in my neighborhood.

I wonder if this O'Farrell mezza****** J-off knows that C******* Day began as a memorial to the eleven legal Italian immigrants who were wrongfully blamed and subsequently lynched for the murder of a New Orleans Chief of Police. Any mention of them, or the other human labor abuses Italian immigrants endured for the hopes that they or their scions could one day participate in the proverbial American Dream? I won't be holding my breath...

Or does he know that the anti-Columbus campaign- disparaging Columbus as a butcher, taking down and vandalizing statues, etc. - was started by the KKK?

He, along with all the others need to study up on the habits of the indigenous people including human sacrifice, slavery, child murder, and cannibalism.
All of which the Roman Catholic Church stopped here some 500 years ago.

Might be a good read for Mitch

Article from the Federalist today .

---

Los Angeles and Austin, Texas have now joined the list of liberal-run cities that have eradicated Columbus Day from their calendars and replaced it with “Indigenous Peoples’ Day.” In LA, the desire to dis the European discoverer was so strong that they rejected a compromise proposal to keep Columbus Day and add “Indigenous Peoples’ Day” elsewhere.

Long before the white European knew a North American continent existed, Indians of the Northern Plains were massacring entire villages,” says George Franklin Feldman in the book “Cannibalism, Headhunting and Human Sacrifice in North America: A History Forgotten.” “And not just killed, but mutilated. Hands and feet were cut off, each body’s head was scalped, the remains were left scattered around the village, which was burned.”

I have no problem with the recognition and celebration of indigenous people, but why must one day REPLACE the other? Italian Americans are quite proud of Columbus, and as the article points out, the Klan was anti-Catholic and wanted to bar immigration by Southern Europeans, who they believed were superior to So they're just trading which cultural group to step on.

Wow !.... we are living in some crazy times .

-----
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — A statue of Christopher Columbus was covered up Monday just as the first Indigenous Peoples Day in Los Angeles got underway.

That statue is located in downtown Los Angeles’ Grand Park, in front of an entrance to the Stanley Mosk Courthouse off Hill Street. A white cover was placed over the sculpture of Christopher Columbus and the block it stands on, and a chain-link fence erected around it.
