Whether or not to license food cart vendors is an interesting policy debate. But when you throw around things like dumping ground for the poor or Tijuana or gang bangers it does nothing for the conversation.

My take is that these vendors do need to be licensed and regulated. And the immigration status of any particular vendor should not impact how we implement that policy.

Exactly. These things are eyesores for any neighborhood trying to look good. If have 600K to spend on a house, and one is street vendor free, and the other has them up and down the street, you can guess which one looks more attractive to a buyer.

.
The thing is gangbangers or places turning into Tijuana is real talk. Have you been to Tijuana lately? Pretty much looks like Rampart and 6th on a Saturday night.

There are people of all types who enjoy food from the street vendor. It's a successful little venture for a reason. Generally folks eat from there. I've seen more and more taco tables popping up and they get packed.

All types? Higher end neighborhoods tend to eat better/cleaner. Case in point, How many 7-11's or MCDonalds do you see in Beverly Hills or Pacific Palisades, or Studio City?

There won't be any limits to how many carts there are or where they are located ?

It's funny this is all done to protect these "immigrants" from ICE or Trump or the Boogieman .
There are plenty of MS13 gang bangers in L.A and other bad hombres .

I don't see ICE going after the hot dog guy or the dude selling oranges or lady selling flowers on the corner .

This is just more "symbolism " from our lovely over paid ($180k year) city council .

We can't keep being a dumping ground for the world's poor .

Also how many of these "entrepreneurs " are paying taxes ?

While the act of selling hotdogs, fruits and other products on Los Angeles sidewalks is no longer a crime, vendors could still be cited with a misdemeanor if they are operating in public parks.

Activists say this means that despite the city’s efforts, many vendors who are in the country illegally could still be slapped with a criminal offense that could be used as a reason for federal immigration officials to deport them.

Citing those concerns, three Los Angeles City Council members began the process this week toward reducing penalties for vending in public parks, beaches and recreation areas from a misdemeanor to an administrative violation.

Look more like Tijuana? So affordable?

No ,L.A is different in that neighborhoods can degrade but prices still go up .

That doesnt work in most other places .

We have some of the worst conditions now , homeless tents all over , ghetto street vendors, rising violent crime etc but homes are at an all time high .

Because it's a desirable place unlike conservative bastions like Alabama and Kansas

Imagine if all illegals were deported? How the rents and home prices would drop in many areas. Not enough people needing rentals or buying a house in groups.

The food vendors sound "nice" until people start getting sick because they do not handle the food properly.

In fact how do you know where the meat in a taco came from or what it actually is? Any missing pets lately?
