If somebody blew an airhorn at somebody who is squatting on private property without permission from the owner, and the squatter is perfectly capable of taking their belongings and walking away from the situation but chooses to not do so, can the person using the airhorn in an attempt to chase away the squatter realistically get into trouble with law enforcement? Or if there's a decibel issue, what about something a little quieter such as striking a cowbell with a drumstick? Or what about just banging a pot with a wooden spoon?

BTW, I'm asking for a friend.

Your friend needs to engage an attorney well-versed in California landlord/tenant law. What you're referring to would be a "self-help eviction" and the law frowns on that. Even for squatters.

If your friend thinks he has a problem now, it will be much worse if he proceeds without pursuing a legal remedy.

I think for it to be a eviction he has to have paid rent.

Are you the property owner? Are you acting as an agent for the property owner? Do you know without a doubt that said "squatter" does NOT have property owners permission to be on property? Are you sure, or not sure if this is a tresspass situation?

My friend says it's a transient who is squatting on the property and cannot possibly have permission from the property owner to be there, littering his trash and urinating on the property.

It’s also called disturbing the peace and possible harassment.
