. . . on a Sunday. Dropping off someone for an appointment in Sun Valley (just North of Bob Hope Airport) and have to wait around for 4-5 hours. Any suggestions on how to occupy that time? Good place to eat? Sites to see? Things to do?

You could tour the sand & gravel pit and the cement making plant. There is a lot of junkyards there, I would suggest Pick Your Part. If you like old cars as I do it is kind of fun to walk around and look at cars close up that are of some interest to you.

There is a Spanish Mission nearby in Mission Hills and/or you can drop down into adjacent Burbank and check out Portos restaurant on Magnolia or check out San Fernando Road walking district in downtown Burbank with maybe 20 places to eat or Tujunga Village in North Hollywood where Aroma Cafe is popular or the NoH Arts District where are a number of nice restaurants -- nothing fancy.

Assuming you are driving

Thanks for the suggestions.

@Csonka Yes, I'll be driving. Burbank was already on the short list.
@v8 Vega Although I could probably kill a couple of hours oogling junked cars, my wife will be tagging along and that would not be her idea of a good time.

Well, Porto's is always a great death by food place with their delicious food items and those fantastic desserts, and at reasonable prices. Yeah, I would wait it out at Porto's with a scrumptious (the Cuban is my favorite along with a Caesar salad with dressing MADE on the premises) sandwich followed by coffee and deductible DESSERTS! One can read or play on the smartphone.
