The stadium is going up either way, but in terms of merchandising, there will no doubt be a huge increase. How much of LA will benefit and how much?

I believe the short answer is pretty much no impact at all.

"The idea that sports is a catalyst for economic development just doesn't hold water."
—Robert Baade, sports economist

https://research.stlouisfed.org/publ...orts-stadiums/

The construction of the stadium is creating (temporary) jobs but once its built the stadium will host about 8 games a year. So it will support some minimum wage concession jobs and a roster of millionaires.

I realize the Inglewood stadium will host other events but the hucksters who try to sell NFL stadiums to cities make bogus claims about the "multiplier" effect. The reality is people in a region have limited entertainment budgets...if they don't spend it on a game they will spend it on a concert or a museum, etc. There is minimal net new economic activity from a sports team. Certainly not enough to justify spending public money to build a stadium.

Now, I am sure that "hosting" a Super Bowl does bring in extra revenue to local hotels, restaurants, etc. But that is a once a year event and it rotates between cities.

So does a super bowl win bring more people from outside of LA to come see the games? Perhaps. But I don't see it making any difference to a region as huge as LA.

The only people that benefit are the owners of the Rams. Everyone else will see measly gains.

The rain will kill the street vendors two day sales of counterfeit gear. Perhaps a parade would see a make up day.

Given it’s about to be 9 to 0, maybe we don’t stand a chance anyway.

Update: maybe.

Look on the bright side, the Kings, Ducks, Lakers, Clippers won't be making and losing a Finals anytime soon.

Furthermore, there will not be any rioting from sports fans, which gets rather expensive when they start torching buildings, police cars, etc. And, everybody who doesn't live in L.A. hates L.A., so the Rams losing means a little less hatred for us. And, with football season over, I can listen to my KFI shows without them getting preempted. So, the Rams losing has a lot of benefits when you think about it.

It makes me feel like the fix is on, suddenly the Rams and Chargers are playoff contenders one season after leaving their respective cities. Didn't the Rams win their last championship the same year they left for St Louis?
