Is there a significant difference in auto insurance rates between L.A. city and surrounding cities?

For example, would someone living just to the east of Clybourne Avenue in Burbank pay more on average for auto insurance than someone living just west of Clybourne in North Hollywood?

I moved from North Hollywood to Burbank; my insurance dropped about 10 dollars.

Coming from a suburb 20miles south east of LA to Los Feliz my rate was raised about $40 a month. I'd guess the farther you move away from LA, the lower your premium will be.

So in your case it probably won't be that drastic of a change.

Ten dollars per month or per year? Not a big difference either way, but just curious.

Every 6 months... 20 a year.

it can be a difference. if you're moving from a high crime zip to a low crime zip you can notice a significant decrease. or visa versa

Actually, that changed a few months ago. I just found this:

The use of ZIP Codes to determine insurance rates are now supposed to play a minor role.

Thanks for your responses. I think my questions have now been answered.

what they say and what they do are still different things. its like getting a business to honor a giftcard or coupon thats expired when the recent state law dictates that they never expire

Yeah, but at least there's now a rule that they're supposed to follow, so it means that we shouldn't just accept a rate because we think it's determined by our ZIP Codes.
