I know that California is 'broke'. Jobs are hard to come; housing is by no means affordable compared to other areas of the US by and times are hard right now....However..I am seeking out recent transplants that have made the move from NC/Southeast....Are you happy with your decision? Are you having a difficult time in California....Do you wish you had stayed where you are... Please weigh in on this discussion... I need to hear from other people who have made the move...

We moved to LA two years ago, from Kentucky. We have had no regrets.

The culture is different, of course, and we've pretty much loved the differences.

Regarding the economy, it's tough as you know. Job markets are tight, housing costs are challenging. We sometimes wonder whether we would have been better off staying put; but for us - the answer is that we are better off in LA. Your situation may vary.

We have moved between Florida and L.A. several times, and we felt like we fit right into L.A. as soon as we got here. We are pretty adaptable, though. We've lived in Orlando, Tampa, Miami and even a tiny town in North Central Florida. We found that due to the high electricity and water costs in FL, that it doesn't cost much more to live in L.A. Of course, in FL we can rent a two bedroom apartment or even a house for the same price as a tiny one bedroom apartment here in L.A. It all depends on what is important to you and what you are seeking in life. You can't beat L.A. for excitment, culture, unique entertainment opportunities and awesome movie theaters playing classic films (you can even watch classics in a Hollywood cemetery in the summer). The SE offers many things that I miss too, though. My husband's job situation is horrible in both states, so we are at a loss of what to do right now.

Ha ha, my family keeps saying that my husband and I should move to South Carolina from L.A. to be closer to them (they live in Illinois). Our main goal right now is to find my husband a construction job, as his unemployment just ran out. Do you know how the construction industry is in Charleston?
