Hi - I have a question about the Miracle Mile area I was hoping to get some feedback on. I have searched the forum and found some great info on the area but not as precise as I was hoping to find.

Basically I am moving down to LA in a few months from the Bay Area for work (downtown) and am pretty set on setting up shop in the Miracle Mile area. Whilst craigslist (and Google) has been great for smaller apartment complexes, what are some of the larger ones (e.g. Park La Brea) in the Miracle Mile area with rents up to about $1400 for a 1BR? I'd like to get some together so I can come down on a weekend and give them a tour. In other words, are there any other equivalents to Park La Brea (don't have to be quite as big, but bigger than your usual 4x apartment complex) in the area?

Thank you very much in advance!

the palazzo buildings are next to park la brea and are pretty big. there's actually a handful of larger complexes (of course not as big as park la brea) in that area. check out hotpads.com, that is a pretty good site for looking at apartments.

There are quite a few larger apartment communities that have been built near Wilshire and La Brea in the past 3 years:

BRE Wilshire (or 5500 Wilshire)
Avalon Wilshire
The Veridian
Museum Gardens

There is another one under construction next to the BRE project..looks almost done. It is by Legacy Partners.....not sure of the name of the project.

Again, you'll have to research the rents.

Correction to my last post. The BRE project is called 5600 Wilshire. Here's a link.

And the Legacy Parnters project is called 5500 Wilshire (and it's right next to BRE's 5600).

Here's a link from the construction company. I drove past it the other day...it's further along than this link indicates. They might have move-ins by summer or certainly fall.

5500 Wilshire Top-Out

When I used to live in the Miracle Mile, there was barely any development along Wilshire Blvd. Now in the past few years, they have been massively developing that Blvd. We'll have to wait and see what that does to traffic. I just remember, being worried about coming home at the wrong time and not being able to find parking on my parking meter only street. That's how bad it got. Hopefully with more of the mixed use retail moving in, there will be less need for people to drive. So far, some of the new mixed use retail I'm seeing doesn't look at all too enticing, but there are still a lot of vacant spots for lease.

Does anyone have any experiences living in some of the mega apartment complexes in LA like Park la Brea? I looked up some of the reviews for this apartment complex and, while some were pretty bad, I figured the only people who take the time to write reviews are either management or those who have had really bad experiences. If you were new to LA, would you prefer living in a big complex initially or searching for an apartment in one of the smaller buildings?

You know, I thought the same thing as you but spent some time yesterday really digging on this place and whilst I brush aside the unresponsive management stuff, I came across alot of roach complaints - and I think its put me off. I'm a little disappointed to be honest as its the perfect location and its actually on the cheaper end of apartments in MM that I've been able to find - I just don't know if I can take the risk given what's been said out there. Hopefully someone will give us a real-life insight though!
