I am a first year medical resident taking advantage of Republic Bank's medical resident loan. I have mostly been doing my real estate search from out of state, with the help of my realtor. I have been able to make a couple of one day trips to Louisville to look at properties, and was impressed by a nice old house on E Oak Street, next to Shelby Park. I was only able to see the area around midday, so it was hard to see who actually lives in this area. I am a blond hair, blue-eyed girl in her mid-20s, and I will most likely be living alone. Would this be a safe place for me to purchase a house? Would it be a nice neighborhood in which to live? Any advice and honest opinions would be greatly appreciated.

This is really tough...as of right now, the area is mostly low income...but literally 5 blocks east (east of Logan and then east of Barret) the houses go for 300k and up. It is truly a gentrifying, up and coming area, and honestly you would probably have no problem, but there are still sketchy parts. I honestly think the streets directly around Shelby Park are pretty nice though. Private message me if you like...I am an expert on local urban areas as well as work in the medical field.
