I am planning on moving to Louisville area in the very near future. Coming from Michigan, I have a couple of questions regarding utility companies.

Is AT&T U-Verse available in this area? I get my phone, cable, and internet service from them here in Michigan.

Who are the gas and electric companies that I will be dealing with?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

AT&T is the primary wired line service in the area including DSL. Insight Communications has a TV/Phone/Internet package. E-on Corporation owns both LG&E and Kentucky Utilities. LG&E serves most of Jefferson County and invades many of the nearby counties south of the Ohio River as well. KU works in several towns such as Shelbyville and LaGrange. There are rural electrical cooperative firms that fill in the rest of the gaps. Water is from Louisville Water and many small governmentally owned suppliers such as Oldham Co Water.

Most all the major national celluar services are in the area, too.

Honesty,

The only cable company in Louisville is Insight (government granted monopoly). You may check to see if AT&T partners with any of the satellite companies, if the bundle is an issue for you. Feel free to shoot me a private message if you'd like any advice, I relocated here from Michigan also...last one out of Michigan turn the lights out.

"Last one out....turn the lights out." You got that right. You name the adjective (bad, horrible, frightening), it describes how things are here in Michigan right now.

I have a bead on a good job and they have already checked my references. I am hoping for a face-to-face interview in about a week. If they make me a good offer, things will have to move very fast! I'll have to give my employer two weeks' notice and find a place to rent---FAST.

I've been perusing the Courier-Journal, the Tribune, craigslist, and rent.com. I'm not interested in buying, just renting hopefully a house, rather than an apartment. Plus, I have to find someone who will accept my dog (a 65-pound lab mix). Wish me luck!

Thanks for all the great information here. Two of my sons live there in Louisville as well, so between you and them, it has been a huge help to me.

I work for Insight and will definitely be able to help you out on your TV, Internet, and Phone. We offer a pretty good bundle deal. Give me a call when you get a chance and we can talk. (502) 773-2522 Thanks, Andrew

I can say from my personal experience that the customer service offered by Insight is outstanding. Frankly, it used to be horrible. But about 5 years ago someone must have cleaned house because it improved dramatically. Every person I have dealt with at Insight -- whether for cable TV or the Internet or customer service or tech support -- has uniformly been helpful and friendly.

And no, I don't work for Insight or have relatives who do!
