I don't know what the answer is. Businesses set up where they can make money. The Dollar Generals and Family Dollars in lower income areas are repeatedly being robbed all over town. I don't see any big grocer deciding to deal with that. There is no conspiracy as former Mayor Ellis suggests. If it were profitable, the grocers would open. Many of the residents in these areas use EBT. I wonder if the rule that allows EBT to be used on prepared foods like those in gas stations, etc has removed the incentives for stores to offer traditional groceries in these areas.
The article mentions the My Store on Anthony has fresh food and meats. They should be doing better now and it is not too far away.
In the meantime, MTA may need to reconsider adjusting some bus routes to get more people to other grocery stores.
