Hi Everyone, I’m considering moving to Madison from Iowa. How is it I’m Madison in 2020? How is the crime rate? How is the cost of living, where are the safest areas to live? And lastly are there shootings there often? Thanks

Well with Corona it's pretty much full stop like everywhere. Who know what is to come but before all of this Madison was doing very well. Low crime, but rather expensive to live in. There are cheaper areas but they are the ones with higher crime.

The safest areas are the west side, Middleton, Shorewood, near west side, Monona and the far east side.

There are shootings and murders in Madison like everywhere but it isn't anything disproportionate to it's size. When the health situation improves come on down for a visit to check it out for yourself.

Check out the data here on City-Data for details on crime rate and demographics. Remember, Madison is a college town so some of the nonviolent crime numbers (thefts and assaults) may get pushed a little higher due to the UW population.

As already mentioned, it isn't the cheapest place to live, but it's a beautiful city and enjoys a pretty high standard of living. Also, worth noting that Madison has traditionally weathered economic hard times better than most of the Midwest so it may be a good spot to be for the next year or two while things get turned around.
