I'm planning on retiring in the spring from a teaching job in Dubuque, and we would like to be closer to Madison due to the lovely woman I just remarried having two grandchildren in the area. We had talked about selling our condo in Dubuque, my wife's family property in NW Wisconsin near St Paul, and buying a place in Madison. But we've decided that we want to look at staying in our Dubuque condo and buying a smaller condo in the Madison area looking at the options we've seen.

We particularly like what we've seen about some condos in the Sherman Terrace and Lakewood Gardens area; it looks like an ideal area for us, and although there are some obvious shortcomings in space and storage, they look like they'd be an attractive second residence for us at a good price.

Just wondering what you think about this area. Thanks in advance!

seems to me that those were all older apt buildings that some years ago were converted over to condos. Never really spent a lot of time in the area, it's in a convenient location but I can't say how the overall neighborhood is nowadays. And if it's not a permanent residence, you may want to look into how it's managed, how your place would be covered or watched while you are gone, etc

Yeah they definitely used to be apts. The only experience I have with them is a one or maybe 2 time babysitting gig I had there as a teen. I would presume they are on the cheaper side. They are old units close to Tenney Park and Maple Bluff.
