I'm planning to vacation in Maine again next October. We usually stay in hotels but I'm hoping this time around to rent a log cabin which is located by a lake or the ocean (would prefer a lakeside property). Would anyone be able to direct me to a travel agent or website who would handle such properties? I've been scouring the internet but haven't had much luck. Lots of hits but mostly random, nationwide sites without any real information.

I don't need a big place. Two bedrooms is fine. It needs to be "pet friendly", and I'm fine with whatever fees are associated with that.

Many thanks in advance!

Early or late October? I know of a beach house with a private beach in southern Maine. It's more of a summer place but has heat and I've stayed there for Thanksgiving. Can't beat the views.

Try homeaway.com. I believe that you can search rentals by area of the state and also by properties that are lakefront rather than just waterfront. Most listings specify dates that are already booked and whether or not pets are allowed. Good luck!

Mind forwarding that along to me as well? The wife got to go to MDI last summer but this summer it's time to go inland!
