I resently quit my job because of discrimantion I also lived where I worked. Now I am unemployed and homeless... I am trying to find work and am able to stay with family for the time being ... I was looking into reciving unemployment while I am looking for a new job, I was told by a few people that I could not recive unemployment because I quit... Any way around this I do have a small paper trail to prove discrimantion and a couple letters from coworkers...I have worked my whole life and am not asking for a hand out just need a little help... The other thing is that I now have to move back to upstate NY , not sure if that makes a diffrance in ME.

There is a lot of seasonal work available in Maine this time of year--through October. You should be able to find something. Are you planning on looking for work before or after you move back to upstate NY? Seems like you would want to look for work in the same location where you plan to live.

You should be talking to the unemployment office for answers; not here. They have all the first-hand knowledge and can guide you on what to do next. You've paid into this during working times. Now you should be making them work for you.

I agree with you tinbender to a point. The Employment Office seems more friendly and willing to offer helpful guidance when a person is there to use the available resources to secure a job, but I've never known the Employment Office to be looking out for the best interests of the client when the client is filing for unemployment compensation--they seem to look for excuses (oops--reasons) not to pay and often the client will have to go weeks without any compensation before things are settled in the client's favor--or not. There may be an initial denial followed by the OP giving up or filing an appeal. There may be one or more hearings since this person quit their job and gives the reason as discrimination. Is it worth the battle or would the OP be better off to be working somewhere else...one of my initial thoughts was did the OP quit a high paying job or a minimum wage job. A minimum wage job is pretty easy to come by in Maine in the summer.

My point is that they need to check with Dept of Labor not CD posters. Nice or not (never had to file) they are the folks with the checks.

My point is that it would be less hassle for the OP to just go find another job.
Employers have checks too along with people who work....and can't forget retirees.
Thankfully I only had to file once in a life time (so far anyway). I have a number of friends and relatives who live the life of seasonal summertime work and winter unemployment checks.
