It has happened before, for sure.

I also think that we humans are contributing factors as well, how could we not be having a neg effect on the environment.

Yep.

I find it amazing so many people just jump to the conclusion that global warming is caused by humans. You'd be amazed how many scientists don't think that it's 100% human caused. The few that do claim it though are the ones that get the media attention and instill this panic.

The answer is that we never have before. Global warming and global cooling are both caused by the sun. Always have been. There is evidence that a forest fire burned Siberia once. That's a huge area. That natural event must have darkened the sun over North America for a while. In the 1800s we had a "year without a summer". People starved and there were many crop failures. It was caused by the eruption of Krakatoa in Indonesia. More recently, the eruption of Pinatubo in the Philippines spewed more pollutants into the air in one natural event than all the coal mined since the industrial revolution. It did make for a summer of beautiful sunsets though.

I was told that when Greenland and Iceland were settled that they knew the name's would eventually be told to their enemies, so they devised one name [Greenland] that when their enemies heard such a name, they would be drawn toward it, insisting that it held great harvests and prosperity, and thus be drawn toward their own demise.

Likewise 'Iceland' is named with the hope that anyone who ever heard of such a place would from thence forth steer a wide berth around and avoid such an awful place.

Great ploy on the part of the settlers!

I do understand that underneath Greenland there does lay the remains of an ancient forest, however that forest was covered by ice thousands of years ago, long before the first human settlers. Perhaps during one of the earth's previous inhabitants maybe they had made use of the 'greenness.

This is exactly how I feel, and frankly the debate can go on forever laying blame in many laps. The fact of the matter is though, is it really all that difficult to be progressive concerning our natural resources and alternatives?
