I remember going to the Daytona 500 a few years ago and I left Maine and it was -5. I got to Florida and it was about 65. I was in shorts and people were walking around shivering telling me I was crazy for being in shorts when it was so "cold." I said, "Cold!? When I left this morning it was -5...that's cold!" They just looked at me. What wimps.

ah you are right unhappycamper and this is what I just found:

An easy way to remember is:

-Arctic, comes from the Greek "artik" meaning "bear".
-Antarctica, comes from the combination of "anti" and "artik" meaning "no bears".

So the Arctic (north) is where you find bears, and the Antarctic (south) is where you won't.

Annchantal that reminds me of the silly story about the lady who marked her pie crusts with a TM so she could tell them apart....."tis mince" and "t'aint mince". (except your research makes sense.)
