I’m planning my July 4 th vacation to Boothbay Harbor again. I’ve been there many times over the years.
What other towns are worth while visiting within the surrounding areas? No problem driving 5-45 minutes to each destination. Looking for Shops, restaurants, site seeing, lighthouses, museums, ect..... Open to any and all suggestions.
I was looking at Bristol, George Town, Phillipsburg.?
I’ve been to Southport, New Harbor and all the other towns south of Portland.
If you appreciate Boothbay, I think you’d enjoy Camden and Rockport. Camden is close to an hour without traffic, but it has a beautiful harbor and busy downtown with shops and restaurants, and Camden Hills State Park for hiking. Stop in Rockport along the way. Its harbor is equally beautiful, and less crowded.

About 45 minutes north up Rt 1 is Owl's Head Transportation Museum in Owl's Head. Just a few miles further up the road is Owl's Head Light and State Park. There is also Rockland nearby with many great restaurants and of course the Rockland Lighthouse. Or if you like lobster with a great view try Mcloon's Lobster shack for IMO the best lobster roll in Maine.
I second Owl’s Head and Rockland Lighthouses. We often take the walk out to Rockland’s, great fun! You can do both in a morning, quote close to one another.
