Possible relocation to a job in Lewiston ME
We want a nice community, by the coast, that has good school systems to raise our 3 children. Looking for neighborhoods (subsivisions)
I have been researching Scarborough, but am unsure of distance and commute to Lewiston.
Are there any other small towns around the Portland area that meet our critera?
Thanks for your help!

I don't know what your criterea is? cost of living, commute time, ect ect.

The best school systems are cape elizabeth and yarmouth.. both are nice towns and on the coast.

Welcome to the Maine forum, eastcoast3.

Many of the folks we work with that work in Lewiston look to communities like Falmouth, Yarmouth, Cumberland and North Yarmouth (which share a school district). Scarborough is a much longer commute, although we get spoiled with our commute times - an hour might not seem too bad to you.

Thank you, I will look into Falmouth. An hour commute is a little longer then what we are use to.
To answer the criteria question, I am looking for commuting distances, community involvement (things for families and children to do), sports teams, good schools....small town feel.

Portland has added it's third professional sports team, the Maine Red Claws of the NBA Development League. They join the Portland Sea Dogs (AA Baseball) and Pirates (American Hockey League) as teams to follow in the area.

I would add Freeport and Topsham to your list.

Brunswick and Topsham are both worth a look. Brunswick has saltwater shore property if you've got the financial resources. The west side of Cumberland is nice and has turnpike access.
