The general area where my job will be...kind of. I'll be working for JH but in the community. I've accepted the job and coming to visit next week. Please, I really want help so all the kidding can be put on hold I.e. No, "you are making a mistake, it's terrible, good luck..." Made my decision and it's happening

details:
I have two medium size dogs and a cat and boyfriend who is a chef.
We love food and local bars that feel like home. Museums and fun people are welcomed.

Budget: that is a issue. Preferably nothing more than $1300 but looking for $1000-$1100 would be preferable. Living directly in the city isn't a must as I'm sure it's like most big cities and more expensive the farther you go in. Commute time would preferably be 20-35 minutes by car.

Questions: is their a train/metro/sub system that I can use? What are your opinions?

Finally, tell me some things that made you fall in love with your city as I will be visiting next week and who better to hear it from but ya'all.

Thanks so much!

P.S I'm a public health social worker practicing therapy so cultural diversity is what I love and Grit is always welcomed.

Where is your job located? Near the hospital? I don't think that you will find much of a rent difference in the city vs. suburbs but those new downtown apartment buildings are very expensive. Have you looked at the area north of Paterson Park? You might be able to get a decent rowhouse for $1,300. You could also live in Charles Village and take the JHU shuttle to the hospital area. You could get a very large and nice flat there for $1,300. Finally, the nicer parts of northeast Baltimore (Hamilton/Lauraville) are quite convenient to the hospital area.

In the county, Parkville and Overlea are affordable and accessible to your presumed location. I find those areas to be boring but I'm a city guy through and through.

Hey!
Thanks so much for your help and feedback! I would love to get your insight on neighborhoods I have been looking at? It seems like it has been hard for me to differentiate between safe neighborhoods and not since different websites are very inconsistent. Thanks so much!

There are currently 46 rentals listed in the entire city of Baltimore listed on the MLS under $1,300. Being generous, I would say 5 of those are within walking distance of JHH. Pets throw another wrinkle into your rental dilemma.

If you have a car, I would look at Dundalk or Essex in Baltimore County. You may get lucky and find something in Parkville but it's doubtful.
