Where in MD do you live?
iirc there are some areas where it isn't required.

Otherwise... I suspect that the onus is still on you.
And you'll find that out that you should have called the DMV to ask...
when your registration expires and aren't allowed to get new stickers without getting the test done.

One solution is to go to a VEIP station where they'll run the VIN and do the test. You may have to pay a late penalty if you have in fact missed the original deadline.

If you do miss the deadline your registration will eventually be suspended if you ignore the test. Which you don't want to have happen because, in order reregister the car after you become compliant, the vehicle will have to go through the safety inspection.

I wouldn't do anything.

I had a car once that never got an emission test--I had it for 10 years. Their loss!

How did you re-register your car?

There is no "re-registering"---one is just renewing the registration--sent in my $$ and they sent me my new stickers. I never had a problem.

I bought my car brand new from a Dealer. I have no idea why it was not in the que for getting an emissions test. I never bothered to look into it, I just took it as the luck of the draw.

If you feel uncomfortable about it--just contact the DMV.

Then you slipped under the radar somehow. How long ago was this?

My recent experience (within the last 10 or 12 years) is that if you miss the first deadline your second notice gets to you within a week or ten days. Miss that, or not file for and receive an extension, the registration is immediately suspended.

This thread is a good example of why showing location matters.

I suspect that the OP and perhaps GiGi are in counties exempt from the emissions test.
But each are (again) advised) to confirm their status.

I believe the OP is in Montgomery County so he would have to have it done.
