This is a huge headache I can’t get a quick answer. Does anyone know? I had a leased car I traded it in and bought a new car they put 30 day tags on it because they thought they could not transfer my tags. Of course MVA does not answer the phone and the web site is no help well not that I could find. Any help would be great. Thanks much

I suspect the tags on the leased car were assigned to the leasing company not you since they were the owner of the car. Were they personalized tags? If not why worry about it? I would go to an MVA location and talk to them. Some things just resolve better in person

No they were on my car I owned before I went into the leased car. No not personalized tags but they are handicap tags.
Yes I just might have to bite the bullet and go in person.
It does make me kinda crazy since I paid the BMW dealer to handle this, and now they say they can’t

The first step is to get a NEW TITLE in your name alone without any lien or lease notation.
That will require getting a release from the lender or lease company.
This might also require paying some or some additional excise tax.

On top of whatever the title work and excise tax costs...
THEN you can move on to the registration process.
I doubt you'll need to do the Safety Inspection too but you will need insurance.
