Need more information- what is "inexpensive"? What ages are the children? Toddlers? Teenagers? Any activities they like to do or need to be around? Do you want to be closer to a certain religion or ethnicity of people etc?

The kids are in elementary and high school. I currently live in SC where rent on a 2 bedroom apt is $625. Thats inexpensive to me, however, I am from NY so then inexpensive would be somewhere around $800/ $850. Is there such thing in MD? And like I said, I don't want to be more than an hour away from Columbia. I hope I'm not asking for too much.

$800 is pretty low in the DC metro area. Beware of things that sound too good to be true because often you'll find a lot of real estate scams (pay the deposit first, get key later) kind of things in this price range (i.e. just enough to make it worthwhile to the crook, and too little for the cops to make a big fuss about).

I think that probably Sykesville/Eldersburg area might be a place to at least look at. A little south of Sykesville you have West Friendship which is only 20 mins from Ellicott City. It's a starting point on the compass, anyway. Good luck!
