My family with two kids in 6 and 8 is going to move to South Shore. We're considering Braintree and Weymouth. Which is better in terms of school quality and safe neighborhood?

Thanks. So, East or South Braintree then?

Another vote for Braintree. As far as East and South they are both pretty varied, and you'd have to go house by house, street by street. I would say the areas of E. Braintree closest to Quincy and Weymouth Landing are the least nice parts of town, however.

South. The schools in East are not the best.

Braintree. All of Braintree is nice. The part of Braintree near Weymouth Landing is not as nice area. Best areas would be Thayer Academy area,Highlands.

Hi All, thank you for your advices and starting browsing houses in Braintree. However, found that there is a "flood zone" and will take around $700 extra premium per year for those houses there. Did most of houses in South Braintree encoutered flooding before or just a smaller area? Appreciate your comments.

I vote for Weymouth, but South Weymouth only. Braintree is nice, but not so good to raise a family because of its proximity to Boston. Too many kids just hop on to buses and trains to go to places where as parents don't want them to go. I moved from Braintree because of all the kids' issues.
If you don't have kids, choose Braintree, otherwise choose South Weymouth.

Weymouth was ranked 52nd best place to live in the US last year, and 2nd best community to raise kids in 2009.

My friend lives in a "flood zone" neighborhood in Braintree. All of the neighbors fought it and got the charge removed from their policies because of measures that had been taken to prevent flooding. Check into that possibility.
