Hello
We are moving to Westwood this summer. In the mornings, I will be dropping off my son at the Westwood Children's School on Rt 109 and then heading to Rt 128 South.
I have heard bad things about traffic on High Street (Rt 109). How long can I expect it to take me to get from the daycare (which is approximately at the intersection of High St and Nahatan) to Rt 128? At what times is the traffic reasonable, and at what times does it pick up?
Thanks for any input!

Sorry to say, that is an awful stretch of traffic at any time during AM/PM rush hour (and I never have cell service there which seems to make it even worse!) I think you are looking at 15 min+ for what should be a 4 min drive. Traffic is backed up from there all the way until the lights at Summer Street.

I'm someone who would rather take the long way but be moving over sitting in traffic the direct way. You can cut up High Rock Street onto Dover Road, which is a longer route, but at least you won't have your foot on the brake the whole way.

Thanks for the info!
What are your thoughts on maybe taking Gay St and then joining 128 South up at Washington St?

Washington St. doesn't connect to 128. You'd have to get on via East / Pine or jump over to the Providence Highway in Dedham. I don't think you'd save any time.

I grew up in and lived in Westwood for 35 years - you won't escape the traffic in and around Rt 109 no matter what side street(s) you try as everybody knows all the round-about ways and enough people will be with you as to forestall any possible time advantage.

Most commuter routes in and around Dover, Needham, and Norwood are similar. Any road that winds its way inward towards Rt. 128, Rt. 1, or in general, closer in to Boston will be heavily utilized.
