I was just wondering if anyone out there had some recomendations? I sort of took the high road with my education, im 27 yrs old and just finishing up my last two classes for my associates in business admin. I have a year and a half of Civil Engineering education from Wentworth Institute of Tech. I just can't seem to get on track. Im smart and driven and yet everyone seems to be doing better than me. I have a small sign business im running out of my house which is yet to take off. I also work as a full time debt collector. Its not really my cup of tea.

Im in a very weird crossroads in my life right now. My g/f of 6 years is looking to take things to the next step. Im under so much pressure and to make things worse she is 4 years younger than me and makes more money.

I guess that is my main problem, money. I do ok for what I got, but i need to be making more in a field that has room for expansion. does anyone have any recomendations? Thanks in advance.

Default What do you want to do when you grow up?

Are you asking

- if you should dump your girl friend?
- to solve your ego problem?
- to help you figure what you want to do when you grow up?

Please understand there are 1000s of kids graduating from college every year. Most of them barely make enough. A college degree is like a high school degree nowadays. The other kids seem to beat you on both skills and determination by obtaining a college degree. There are 2 main areas where college degree does not matter.
1. Self-employed
2. Sales.

I learn one thing about jobs... The boss often ask...
What can you do for me that I want to pay you for it?

How much a boss pay depends on if he can find someone else do it for cheaper...

Well its not an ego thing, Im ok with her making more money than me, but at what point should I feel like she's pulling my weight? All im saying is I feel like im not going anywhere in life. I have the determination, I just don't have the good paying job yet. I am friends with people who have a college degree and make less than me. I feel like I work full time, I would like to come home and relax when I need to work my side business and still not keep up. Its very annoying.

Default Work Smart not Hard

Salary is based on supply and demand. A skill in demand will be paid more. For example, if you have finish your civil eng degree, you'll probably be earning between $80-100K. Associate Business Admin makes $30K?

Go to salary.com look at Jobs by Salary Range will give you some idea what are the high paying jobs.

Im planning on finishing my bachelors degree in Accounting possibly? Im not completely sure yet. I know if I get my CPA ill be making between 80K-100K a year as well. I guess what im looking for is a decent job possibly breaking into the 40's for now until i finish my degree. I should have my bachelors degree in the next three years (hopefully). I was on a path of not really knowing which direction to head into when i was a bit younger. I probably make about $12,000 a year with my side business, a $40K a year job on top of that would put me right where i need to be for the time being. I also have my real estate lisence although I never used it. It just seems like the market is at a stand still right now and I wouldn't be making much money.

Based on a recent survey asking what kids want, top results show they just want to be rich and famous . Few answered what they want to do to be rich.

The following may seem harsh...

Someone with a real estate license and not make any money when the market is that good? It tells me you cannot sell. A good salesman can sell ice to Eskimo. Many agents made $100+K. Why didn't you?

How do you feel if I say... I just want a job that pays me $500K/yr ? You probably say I'm crazy. No one here is going to give you a $40K job doing nothing... Your track record is not good. It may indicate when the going gets tough, you give up.

Please stop just think about what your needs are ($40K job.) Put yourself in the shoe of a person who will hire you. Why should I hire someone without a degree and have not showed me any skills? It is all about what you can do for me. I think you really need to figure out what you are good at and market it.

Talk with your friends and family to see if there are any jobs available with your skills (not about you need a $40K job.) Tell them what you can do for them (not how much they need to pay you.) Check online job site.

Good luck...
