I've found a few houses that we like in the Charlton area. How are the schools and neighborhood?

I visited someone there once many moons ago and remember it as a very nice town, so that answers your neighborhood question. Schools, I don't know about.

My understanding is that schools in that area are less than desirable, and that Sturbridge has the best schools in that vicinity but that's not based on personal experience. I have friends and a few coworkers who live out that way and that's what they say.

Sometimes a school system is less than well supported by it's community through taxes. That might be the case in Charlton, I don't know. Sometimes there is unfounded snobbery by one town over another. That might be the case with Charlton and Sturbridge, I don't know.

The best thing to do is search out statistics between the two and another neighboring town that is attractive to you and compare. And visit. It's really hard to make these kinds of judgements without primary evidence.

Yeah that is true. We are looking for a more rural community, due to the fact that we have big dogs and kids and need some running space, and there are several homes within our budget in the Charlton area.

Thank you.

It's not really ranked that badly and apparently the highschool is pretty well regarded! I guess it's not THAT bad, huh?

No, it doesn't look that bad to me either. It's also harder to evaluate the educational systems when you have regional districts. Charlton seems more upscale than Dudley.
