Our HOA currently does not have recycling, just trash.

Some people choose to recycle by driving their stuff to the town center.

Our management has mentioned something about recycling at condo associations becoming law in MA.

Does anyone have any sources of information on this law?

I would think it's up to the individual city or town, not the state.

do you mean a law to allow you the ability to recycle and have it picked up the way trash does or do you mean a law that forces you to recycle and if they find a can in your trash, you get fined?

I agree. It's more of a city/town thing vs state.

Thank you CaseyB and BostonMike. SpringMom - it was presented to the Board as your second option "a law that forces you to recycle and if they find a can in your trash, you get fined".

I searched through here for about 10 mins and did not see anything pertaining to such a law forcing a person to recycle. I would think that in order to force recycling, the state/town would have to provide the means for persons (ie lower income). Since some towns don't even do trash pickup, i don't see how you could enforce this?

Personally i would be against such a law, but that's not the scope of this thread.

Thank you BostonMike7. I think that maybe our condo management and/or president had a reason to try and pursue the Board to do this and said something about a law. I'm not sure what their motivation could be. Or maybe they were just under a misunderstanding themselves.

Do they use a private contractor for trash pick-up?

I think that pertains to actual materials which are not allowed in general trash disposal. My condo posts such a list and fines people caught disposing of such items as well. They do provide both trash and recycle drop locations, but post the list of non-permitted items as well.
