Hello

I will be moving to Lexington , MA in the next two months. I am looking for some very basic information like which are the nearby cost effective areas to stay which can be easier to commute to #500 Shire Street.I am fine to spend 30mins in daily one way commute. How is the cost of living in this place? What will be the rent of 1 BHK approximately.Do I need a car or public transport is good enough?.Any additional info which i would have missed to ask.
TIA

Public transit is out for 30 minute commutes to shire. Perhaps they have shuttles from Alewife though that would help. I'd hate to do it without a car, but people probably do.

Your best bet is probably Waltham for the most cost effective area. Should be doable with some work for $1500-1800. You could do better with time and having feet on the ground, but it doesn't seem you will.

you could ask HR at your new employer if they have any recommendations for where to live. If they are paying for your relocation, chances are they have resources like that.

It looks like you're working for Shire? IF they're moving you here, aren't they providing you with info or temp housing? They have moved lots of people over the years, so even if they're not giving you anything for the move, they should have some info for you.

Lots of options for a 1 bedroom -Waltham is probably going to be least expensive.

You need a car. There is a big gaping hole in the public transit network between Arlington and Woburn.

There is a shuttle to shire and a number of businesses out there from Alewife though, if one is adamant of not having a car.

There is the 62/76 bus that runs through Lexington to Alewife, but it does not run much after rush hour...once an hour. If you are not close to Mass Ave you are going to have to drive there to catch the bus, or walk.
