I rent a apartment in a complex and i have been having mice problems even after the exterminator came over 2 weeks ago. i have not been even eating in my apartment and i leave no food out. in my complex some people own condos. one condo owner who lives there has a storage unit that is right near my apartment. i saw him open his storage unit and it had old bagels and muffins in it. he told me he has been keeping the bagels in that unit for months. sometimes he takes a bagel out and throws it into the parking lot. i have seen muffins out side the door where people enter left crumbled up.

I believe he is leaving the food in there for the very purpose to attract mice. i told the management company his name and that his unit has old food in there . they said they could not go into his unit but if it happened to open up they might do something.

i fear i wont get rid of the mice problem because he keeps putting bagels and muffins in his storage unit. what can i do? stop paying rent? can the management company fine him. this is a major concern that they wont force him to remove the food. since he is a condo owner its harder to get rid of him.

does anyone know my options ? call the board of health and tell them about the food in the storage area?

Who do you actually rent the unit from, who owns your condo? They are the ones to complain to.

This guy really sounds mentally ill.

no one see's the owner of the complex. i am a renter and the property management company is who i complained too. he owns a condo in the unit I am only a renter.

i might need to call the board of health. hopefully there is a loophole in the law where they need to go into his storage unit and maybe fine him for leaving food in the unit.

i talked to a exterminator and they said if you can get him to put the bagels in Tupperware that would prevent the food from attracting the mice since they can not smell through Tupperware.

they are coming from my closet which is next to his storage unit. i wonder if they could patch some holes .

Neighbor is senile or mentally ill. Who in their right mind would store bagels in a storage unit? Who eats that many that they can't be put in a bread box or refrigerator in their apartment? Time for a call to social services.

Is there a law against storing food in the storage unit?

he takes the bagels and food and throws it in the parking lot. he says he throws the food out in the parking lot to feed the birds. he does not eat the bagels or the muffins. this morning he threw pasta out in the middle of the parking lot.

your not supposed to put food in a storage area because it attracts mice. this has happened in storage units. there are certain states i believe can go into storage units if its a health issue.

There is usually someone in most towns that you can call to help a mentally ill neighbor or someone elderly who is having problems. If it isn't clearly posted on whatever town website you live in, start with town hall or the council on aging, maybe a council of disabilities if you have one, to steer you right. Someone should be checking in on them if noone is already doing that. If you take a more kindly tact, I believe you'll accomplish what you want to do better than if you continue to approach in attack mode.
