You all seem to know so much about the ins and outs of moving... I thought I would throw this out there...I'm looking to move across greater Boston (west of Boston to the South Shore) likely end of May. While I'd like to do it all in one day, there is a possibility that I may have to wait up to 2 months before my new place is ready. I've been investigating storage options with various moving companies (I have a 3 BR apartment worth of stuff), and the results aren't pretty. There is usually a monthly charge for storage PLUS the upcharge for the extra time for the movers to basically have to load and unload stuff twice.

I may have to bite the bullet, but was wondering if there were any other less expensive options that are manageable short of dumping my stuff with a relative (LOL). I can pack most of my stuff myself but won't be able to get my own moving crew.

Thanks for any tips.

So you are saying goodbye to MetroWest? I remember your other posts seeking a town around Medfield, etc. If you care to share, where did you find your happy place?

U-box or pod or upack container for items you can live without during the interim and small storage space for items like personal papers or non-seasonal clothing that you may need between places, if you do not have a friend or family member to store these with.

I'm moving to Hingham :-) I had looked at towns all over greater Boston.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Yep. If the OP is allowed to drop a PODS container in the apartment parking lot, that solves the problem. Load it up. They haul it to a warehouse. 2 months later, they haul it to Hingham.

Most people wouldn't be able to fit 3 bedrooms worth of stuff into an 8x8x16 container. It would probably take two of them. Beware that you need 4 feet of clearance on either side of the pod when they drop it off or pick it up. You can park next to it otherwise.

PODS will recommend several national brokers for movers to load and unload the pod. It's luck of the draw but I had pretty good luck with Hire-a-helper.

Many Uhaul facilities have storage facilities to store the UBox-until the renter is ready to move it to their new place.
