I am 60 years old, retired, no family and looking to move away from Malden in the next 6-9 months, but still want to stay in Massachusetts or may consider New Hampshire. I am looking to purchase a single family home in a nice area and have $250-$300k to spend. Does anyone know of any affordable homes in nice areas in this price range?

I am not looking to do any remodeling and just want to have it move in ready. Would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

Maybe in the Lunenburg/Leominster area in MA?

You can’t go wrong with most of Southern NH.

Norton, Mendon, Hopedale. I just went down this list of safest towns real quick and picked out a few affordable ones. If you look at this list and go on Redfin.com or another realty site you can kind of try to figure out the combination of safety and affordability that you want.

You’d have to go up to NH or West (Leominster area as a previous poster said) for move in ready at that budget.

I grew up in Malden. It has changed so much since I was a kid.

I'd look at Dover, Lee, and Goffstown NH too. Dover has a great downtown. Lee doesn't have much of a downtown, but is very pleasant and is close to Dover, Durham and Newmarket, which do have nice downtowns. Goffstown is a little more spread out than Dover, but does have shops and places to eat and is also very nice. Dover and Lee are also a short drive to the Great Bay, and to the coast, Portsmouth and York.

I'd suggest the Mendon/Sutton area or Holdon/Sterling/Princeton area for MA. I would have loved to live in one of those areas...more for the money but my husband's job is closer to Boston.

Anything North or West in the Worcester area will be pretty cheap. Even Worcester itself in the more suburban parts.

Anywhere not commutable to the Boston job market is going to have homes in that price range. How do you spend your time? What is important in a town for you?
