I know MA was the trendsetter in the health insurance reform arena. under Governor Romney. Leaving out all the politics, and whether what works (or not in MA) can work (or not) for the country, etc.. the question is:

With ACA/Obamacare being the law of the country, and also its potential weakening ...

For a person who wants to be able to potentially purchase health insurance as an individual, does MA offer any advantages (or possible disadvantages). That is, I believe that one should be able to purchase meaningful health insurance as an individual, if that is what one needs or wants to do. What is the state of health insurance in MA as an individual at this point in time?

Thank you!

To clarify -- I don't currently live in MA, but I am considering relocating to Boston area. Would like to get information about the question I asked above for relocation decision-making.

For instance, comparing NY state to MA, would MA offer any advantage related to individual health insurance.

I know health care cost and insurance is a confusing and complex (and probably depressing) topic. I am hoping someone will have an opinion on this topic. It is just a comparison of MA vs (NY or other northeast states) type question. Not meant to be political or anything.

We have an individual health insurance plan because my husband is self-employed. I couldn't tell you what's available in NY.
Ours is pretty much limited to a specific network of doctors and hospitals.
