Sources: Deval Patrick mulling Democratic White House run

Quote:
Patrick, a close friend and ally of former President Barack Obama, ruled out a presidential bid earlier this year but has since been talking with Democratic operatives and donors about launching a campaign. His deliberations come as some Democrats express uncertainty about the party’s current crop of contenders.

What exactly is this record he would be running on? I'm not even sure he would be reelected as Massachusetts governor if he tried.

I feel like working at Bain Capital might have disqualified him

The state did well through the great recession and Boston began really booming. So someone please explain to me what is there not to like- and no i don't care about a Cadillac or $12k worth of curtains. Thats not even real money.

Bloomberg has the capital and notoriety to conceivably gain mindshare at this late juncture, but not Deval.

His signature achievement was Casinos.

When you have 90% control of both Chambers of beacon hill and your signature bill is Casinos that doesn’t really inspire much confidence he can do anything in Washington. I don’t think people hate him, he is kinda a big meh

He would make a good Senator. He is a dreamer/inspirer not an administrator.

Do I even know where to start? Well state spending ballooned in many areas, particularly on the admin side of things. Healthcare went out of control and he did made very few attempts to keep it in check. He had a reputation for poor oversight, and his lackluster appointees where we saw travesties unfold to include the DCF fiasco, drug lab, ongoing MBTA problems...

As for the state weathering the recession, I attribute that far more to external forces and the state's existing biotech foundation that left it in the right place at the right time. I give very little credit to any of our recent governors for that.

Sure I'm forgetting lots else, it will come back eventually...

And not necessarily relevant, but I just don't like him as a person. As an outsider, he had this smug disdain towards the local "ways" and those native to the region. He did not relate to the middle class, or even pretend that he had to. His book is indicative of a quite narcistic individual.

Everyone outside of the Northeast would be like, "Who?" Unless he's got some radically different message that has mass appeal (and that is...?), he'd just be wasting his time and his donors' money.

And it's not like we don't have enough embarrassing us in this election cycle...

^^exactly. We have weld and Warren already running.

If Patrick was serious he would have started earlier but he didn't. The last year he was in was constant bad news. Ban the box didn't work. The dcf scandal, the drug compounding scandal etc.

He talked alot but was largely window dressing. I'm not progressive nor liberal but all of my friends on the left won't vote for him.
