What's the world coming to that someone/some people would purposely burn the statue of Virgin Mary?

What a hypocritical world that yells for love and respect, particularly when they're getting press coverage, while at the same time working to tear apart all that is representative of God our father.

It's pitiful that the world has put aside faith in God and is allowing evil to come to the forefront of their lives, as represented by incidents such as this, as well as the breakdown of love and respect for each other in the name of political agendas and corporate greed.

People that keep digging this hole are going to end up in it!

Awful. The poor Virgin Mary has nothing to do with all of the craziness going on in the world. It’s a beautiful statue and it’s actually sad looking at the picture of her peaceful now burned face. St. Peter’s was my grandmothers church and has a large history within my family. Sad times in the world today.

I don't agree with it, but the more the Christian right exercises political power to limit the personal freedoms of the secular world, the more we're going to see strong rebukes.

This is not me approving the actions.

In Massachusetts what exactly are these rights or lack of rather being generated by the Catholic Church.

Dude the Virgin Mary is largely a Catholic symbol.

None whatsoever. It's likely the same animals exploiting George Floyd's murder. They could care less about black lives or "Church infringement".

Wrong. There was a very recent landmark ruling by the U.S. supreme court, pursued by two Catholic entities, which has significant impacts to what were assumed to be basic civil rights.

If you think that in a population of 6+ million, there isn't some small minority of people still angry about the rampant rape and associated cover ups, or the church's political activism (virtue signaling via policy) post rape crisis ... you'd have to be a bit naive. There's pretty deep resent for the church locally, which includes a whole bunch of self-identifying Catholics.

Again, I don't advocate for the vandalism of property, but I also don't think it's all shocking that single actor might be motivated to "stick it" to the church given their recent history.

It’s very sad. It feels like this summer has been the Wild West as far as crime goes in mani places. It’s funny how very few people will give a **** about the defacing of this statue but will cry about school reopening in the fall or someone not wearing a mask at the beach. Fine to deface a catholic statue though. It’s interesting because most people know that these Dorchester catholic churches are in trouble. Let’s just make it worse for them, who cares. Let’s allow groups of polygamists to live together and get benefits in Somerville and let illegal immigrants do as they please but Who cares about Catholic Churches once frequented by white Irish people in Dorchester.

Any reason at all to believe there is a political motive behind this and not just vandalism which happens all the time??
