My wife and I are in the process of leaving our downtown apartment due to the high levels of noise that accompany the arrival of garbage trucks below our apartment every day between 330 and 4am. One of the places we're really keen on is the Nettelton condos in South Main, located at the corner of Nettelton and S. Front.

I'm a bit nervous, however, because there are train tracks that run right behind the apartment complex and I believe are used by Amtrak. I was wondering if anyone has ever lived near this area before and could tell me if the train noise is a real issue. I know Amtrak only runs one train per day, but I'm concerned about heavier freight trains making use of the tracks as well. Any advice would be appreciated as we'd like to stay near the downtown area but want to avoid another noise-induced rental disaster. Thanks!

Hey, I just responded to your private message. I don't find the noise level to be high at all. There really aren't a lot of trains at all and I got used to the little noise there is very quickly. Parking can be tight down here during festivals and on Trolley Tour nights, but overall, it is a great place to live.

Only trolleys use the tracks that run down South Main Street. Amtrak, some light freight traffic, and trolleys run down the track that parallels the river. God bless.
