I have looked at the ratings and test score sites, but I'm curious from an inside / parent perspective...which are the best public middle and high schools in Collierville? It looks to me like Schilling Farms might be pretty good, anyone familiar with that one?

Also, is there a lot of growth and redistricting going on? If I move to a home to be in a particular school, are my kids likely to stay in that school for the next few years?

I have a 3rd and 6th grader.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know about individual schools, but Collierville cannot be annexed to Memphis, so you will never have to worry about that. I do know they are currently rezoning schools in the MS suburbs (Southaven maybe?) and it is causing some major issues for parents. However, Collierville seems to be more secluded than the Southaven/Olive Branch area.

I'm not familiar enough with Collierville schools one way or another to give any advice.

As far as your children not being shifted from one school to another, that's really up in the air. Until the federal court cases are decided with any finality regarding desegregation in the schools, there's no telling what will happen. At this point, Judge Donald is pushing for the schools to reflect overall racial percentages rather than the percentages for that neighborhood. As a result, neighborhood schools may not be the norm in the county anymore. It all depends on what has to be done to satisfy the federal court rulings. (However, this is being contested right now, so her decisions up to this point may not stand in light of the recent US Supreme Court ruling, should the County Schools choose to pursue it to that extent.)

Houston High is better than Collierville High, though both are very good. Houston Middle and Collierville Middle are the best middle schools. Schilling Farms is pretty new and doesn't really have a reputation either way. I'm sure it is decent, though.

This may be a bit late but I just got onto the forum.

Schilling Farms is not really a Collierville school, it is made up of students that may go to either Collierville or Houston High Schools. Your address determines where your kids will go. Both are good high schools. Schilling is new, where as the Collierville Middle School is quite old, the old high school as a matter of fact. Our son went there and we were quite happy with the results, although still no scholarship to Duke or Harvard.

I do some work with both systems and can say that the many teachers and admin I meet are very interested in a good education, but there are always a few bad apples.
