I have thought about the possibility of going back to school and getting another degree once COVID breaks and we actually have semblance of normalcy and can learn in-person again. I am curious though, if any of you have attended Southwest TN Community College in recent memory or have friends or family members that have and could share your thoughts on it?

In looking at their options, they have some IT-related AA/AAS degrees that are interesting to me, such as their AAS in Networking (computer networking, of course). I've spent some time reviewing the course offerings and the academic map/plan for some of the degree options and like that they seem to prepare students for the most basis Cisco networking certification, CCNA, and require an internship. I also like that the tuition seems to be incredibly affordable but wasn't sure if that meant that I could expect a bottom-of-the-barrel education that wouldn't assist me in getting a job in that field and moving forward with a career.

I know this might not be the right place for this type of question but thought I would start on a local forum before searching elsewhere for education or IT-related forums to get their thoughts. Anyone have any thoughts or experiences with Southwest TN?

I've never taken a class there, but it is a public community college. It's fully accredited and seems to have a pretty good reputation in the community.

I hired a couple of alumni from there, I was disappointed with their academic prowess, but they were eager to learn, but a little slow.

This question has been a while but I did go there several years ago. I thought it was a good school and the teachers were knowledgeable on the classes I took. It is a community collage os the costs are low. I actually didn't owe anything because the pell grants paid for the classes I took and I got a small refund although I wasn't taking a full load of classes because I was working also. Was certainly good for people with different schedules. I was able to take day and night classes. I suppost it would depend on the person learning and how much they study. Some people just learn more by doing than books. I did find they had great resources of tutors to help with any issues you have learning something.

I would suggest that if you are going into networking the network+ certification and even the A+ would be good to have and could be looked on better than a associate degree.
