So called natural medications can be just as dangerous as prescription ones. Sometimes the mix itself is bad, sometimes its the amount that's bad and sometimes its a complication with an underlying condition. The most under used person in the medical field is a pharmacist. Remember, they, even more than prescribers, specialize in medications. It's literally all they do. PLEASE do not trust someone on the internet who doesn't know (and may not understand) the amounts of what you are taking and why. Go to a pharmacist and ask for a consultation. It will be free, and you will have the benefit of someone knowledgeable about your medications and your conditions to answer all your questions.
Don't do it. Just because it's natural doesn't mean it's safe. Nightshade is totally natural but it can kill you. Ask your doctor. If you mix the wrong things it can be very bad. Also supplements aren't regulated so who knows what's actually in your supplement bottle. This is especially true if you buy them off the internet from a non-trustworthy seller. Some have the USP verification so those are the best ones to buy. It still doesn't mean it's safe to mix them though.
Is it safe to mix St. John's Wort, theanine, ginkgo biloba, ashwagandha, and magnesium? Obviously while not taking anything prescribed.
TIA!!!
I sure wouldn't! That's quite a complicated cocktail. The more components you add the more variables there will be. A mix of one or two might be OK but add a third and BLAM! Which third? Who knows? Which fourth? Etc. Etc. Another mix of another combination again might be OK. This could be a mess to ever figure out. Meanwhile, you don't get any benefits.
The last thing I'd want is to complicate brain-acting substances. Its your sensory awareness control. You might not even be able to detect a problem. The brain is very good at resisting shifts in its chemical environment. Gradual effects could be suppressed or masked by other compounds until there's a very negative reaction. And, you might not be aware of it until you are really in trouble.
Have you taken any of these supplements before? If not, you don't even know how you might react to them individually. As others have said there are too many unknowns about the makeup of "natural" supplements to even guess at complications. The content can vary even within bottles, batches, source ingredients.
Someone once said: "More isn't always better. Sometimes it's just more."
